Day 1: Cusco – Quillarumiyoc – Tarawasi – Chonta (Condors & Stars over the Apurímac Canyon)

We depart early from Cusco, winding through beautiful highland terrain en route to a day packed with Inca heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.
Our first stop is Quillarumiyoc, an ancient site dedicated to the moon goddess. This rarely visited gem offers a stunning mix of carved rock, terraces, and ceremonial platforms, all surrounded by peaceful, photogenic countryside. It's a great place for morning light and wide shots with soft shadows on the stonework.

These giants of the sky, with wingspans up to 3.2 meters (10.5 ft), often fly close to the viewpoint, giving you dramatic mid-air portrait opportunities against a rugged, cinematic canyon backdrop.

We begin the day in Soraypampa, a high-altitude gem cradled between towering peaks. This morning is all about big skies, bigger mountains, and even bigger birds—this is condor country.
As the thermals rise, keep your lens pointed up: this is one of the best spots to photograph Andean condors soaring across the dramatic skyline. With luck, you'll catch them gliding effortlessly in front of the snow-capped peaks of Humantay and Salkantay, two sacred apus (mountain spirits) that dominate the horizon.
Photo Tip: Use a long lens (200mm+) to isolate condors against the peaks, or go wide to capture the scale of bird and mountain together. Early morning or late afternoon light adds beautiful contrast and dimension.
